Welcome to Sonia Kang Designs, formerly known as Thehappeasunflower. After re-finding my love and confidence for painting in the summer of lock-down 2020, I then decided to sell some of my art (forever making a mess on the dining table).

Being a British South Asian individual, created more of a challenge to dream about pursuing a career in the creative industry. This was due to the constant fear and judgment of others in the community. Living in constant approval of others is undoubtedly draining.

Nevertheless, finally learning to live for myself, I rediscovered my fondness for the arts after graduating with a Media Degree in the pandemic. This made me truly reflect on my passions and desires in life. Working primarily with oils, acrylics, gel and palette knives, I carry inspiration from my surroundings, travels and artists like Van Gogh, to create vibrant paintings and expressive sketches.

It’s crazy how our imagination can bring a blank canvas a new lease of life. Being creative brings purpose, love and light into my life. It’s a safe space for me and my mental health. I appreciate painting with music and the sun beaming through the glass windows. Slowly but surely, I am becoming more confident in exploring different mediums and expressing my imagination through my artwork.

I cannot wait to see what the future holds. It still feels surreal that my artwork is enjoyed around the world. Thank you all for supporting me and my small business. It means the WORLD!
